✨As an amateur in the world of fiction writing, I needed guidance in finalizing my more than 100,000-word manuscript for submission, and I was lucky to retain Steph Donovan to do so. 

Steph’s many years of work in the industry shine through in her professionalism. She was prompt in communication, very thorough, and so very easy to work with.

Because I work full-time, Steph’s willingness to communicate asynchronously via email made the flow of our discussion very convenient. And while this was the easiest way for me to conduct the project, she also made it clear that she was available to talk about any questions or issues by telephone.

In starting the process, Steph first took the time to understand the needs of my novel and then worked with me to establish a navigable timeline for the work. She explained the process: a first round of editing, followed by time for me to review and make changes, and concluding with a second round of editing. She also explained how I could continue to engage her for further edits if necessary. We set up a schedule for the work, and she took great consideration of my needs, not only as a writer, but also of the constraints of my full-time job, giving me plenty of time to consider her edits before submitting the document for its second review. 

She had the first draft of edits done in a timely manner, and in fact finished early! After that, she worked with me on my many questions during the revisions, and then she completed the final editing promptly.

What I most appreciated was the quality of feedback. Through using Google Drive resources, Steph was able to give me plenty of clear and concise advice. The use of the suggestions feature for changes enabled me to easily keep or reject changes, and the use of the comments feature helped me to understand the rationale behind more significant suggestions. In making my changes, I was able to track them using suggestions, enabling Steph to target her final round of edits. This system worked very well!

While some of the advice addressed simple mistakes–which I greatly appreciated being caught–the feedback I found most valuable was the pointers on industry standards, something I was wholly unfamiliar with. In helping me navigate the finalization of my first manuscript, Steph gave me more confidence in my final product and helped me pinpoint some of my weaknesses as a new writer.

I would highly recommend Steph and would work with her again on my next writing project.
